This hands-on two day workshop covers everything you need to know about digital video for the Adobe Flash platform, starting with key pre-production considerations such as camera quality, lighting, audio, green screen shooting and format choices. We move on to the basic tools for capturing and encoding video, then move on to advanced encoding strategies that factor multiple bit rates, codec decisions and options (including the new AVC/H.264 codec support in Flash Player 9 r115), and SMIL.

Microarchitectures are groups of design patterns prepared to work together in concert. PureMVC represents a leading alternative to the well-known Cairngorm framework. PureMVC is a light framework for creating applications based on the class Model-View-Controller meta designpattern. It has a very narrow goal, to provide design patterns AND development patterns to help you separate your programming into three distinct areas; data, user interface, and the application logic. It is approachable and powerful with minimal tedium and repetition in development.

We're going to take the Winter Wonderland demo from Zero fps to the 20's by practicing a few some less known and some well known tips and tricks concerning both the Flash Player and Papervision3D. We'll cover image preparation and rules, the Flash Player's idiosyncrasies and what makes Papervision3D really sing. The Winter Wonderland animation started out as slow as 2fps and ended up in the mid 20's after all of these techniques were applied. That leaves plenty of room for additional animations and bells and whistles later on!

ActionScript 3 has completely changed the Flash development landscape. The performance is outstanding -- you can now write Flash movies that run up to 30 times faster than in Flash 8 -- but there's a lot to learn. This course focuses on teaching practical ActionScript -- how you can start using the new tools in AS3 to get things done!
