Course Outline

Week 1 Introduction to Flash
This class will introduce Flash, it's history and current state in the industry. It will also introduce the concepts of Flash as a drawing tool and as a programming environment. You will get an understanding of what Flash is, what can be done with it, and what to expect throughout this course. You will do your first Flash drawings and scripts during this class.

Week 2 Designing and Animating Pt I
An in-depth look at all of the drawing tools in Flash, and how to use the timeline and movieclips to create animation with no ActionScript.

Week 3 ActionScript Pt I
Introducing the building blocks of ActionScript, you will learn how to control elements within a movie using scripting.

Week 4 Designing and Animating Pt II
This class will advance your knowledge of the drawing tools, showing you tips on how to work more efficiently, and also how to create movies that are better optimized for distribution on the web, and more organized for applying ActionScript later on. You will also learn how to import your designs into Flash from other programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator.

Week 5 ActionScript Pt II
Furthering your knowledge of ActionScript, this class will cover the basic elements of object oriented programming as it exists in ActionScript 3.

Week 6 Creating Interactivity
This class will combine the information learned in designing and programming in Flash to create interactive movies.

Week 7 Dynamic Data
This class will look at the basic concepts of including dynamically generated data into your movies. This will include using XML and external images.

Week 8 Audio and Video
One of the most engaging aspects of Flash is it's ability to use audio and video. This class will cover all aspects of including audio and video into your movies. This includes encoding files, creating a fully functional media player, and including audio and video into a game setting.

Week 9 Components and Extensions
This class will explore the expanding world of Flash components and extensions, where you'll leverage some of the many tools built for Flash to advance your development in a way that is a lot faster than if you had to build everything yourself.

Week 10 Next Steps & Review
This class will touch on some advanced concepts, and give everyone an idea of what they can do next to learn more about Flash. All concepts covered during the course will be reviewed
